Never Taking Health for granted again

I promise myself i'm never gonna take my good health (after i get well this time) for granted. Health is indeed wealth. This what i will do after i get well:

1) Sleep early
With less sleep, our body cant repair itself well and be immunised against the various virus or bacteria

2) Eat warmer stuff
I think virus and bacteria tend to thrive in colder places. so eat when e food is still warm and not let my dinner become cold then i eat.

3) Drink more water

4) Exercise more
I will start a disciplined gym regime!

Trusting yourself is the best..

It has been a long long while since i last blog. now with more people using facebook, i guess it is easier to share photos there with the tagging function. but now i got this explosive urge to key in some inputs before i forget them, even though i am currently not on a very healthy condition.

I have not seen the doctor for a very long time. i wonder if it is working too long hours in an organic fumes saturated lab so much so that bacteria/virus cannot survive near me. usually when i feel feverish, i will just take some paracetemol and then sleep it off, letting my body do its own fighting. other than seeing a doc to get some sleeping pills during my fyp year, i dont remember seeing any docs for any complaints.

BUT last last week on the 14th Aug, i got very bad tonsilitis which caused a bone-aching, 38.9-degree fever. it was so painful and unbearable that i have to visit my family doc downstairs. he gave me a jab on my ass and applied some medication on my tonsils at the back of my throat and gave me anti-bacteria antibiotics (ciproflaxacin) for 5 days plus other drugs for my smaller complaints. i did ask him what caused e disease and about e medicine. but e doc didnt even bother to explain. nonetheless, immediately i felt better but was poorer by 90 bucks. but i got better so it is ok. but on next fri, just when my antibiotic course was done, my fever came back, so does my tonsilitis, and with a bang! it was much worse than ever. i couldnt take it and went back cos i tot he has my records. again i asked him why but he didnt explain. he did e same thing previously and but changed my antibiotic from anti-bacterial to anti-viral (acyclavir) also the new drugs caused a severe, VERY SEVERE gastric pain in me!! and he charged me 130 bucks this time.

Now why does he change it? luckily i got my good friend Dr Harvard Lin. he told me he shldnt change e type of antibiotic unless he has a good reason. how does i know if he doesnt even want to say? I also go and read up on tonsilitis. and he didnt tell me diclofenac sodium (for bone aches) and betamethasone (for phlegm) put together will cause gastric pain. and why doesnt he warn me? and why didnt he prescribe gastric pills?

anyway e lesson i have learnt is to trust only yourself, and your friends of course. after i called my doc this morning and told him my fever didnt subside, he said he suspected it is dengue and wanted me to go to his clinic for a blood test and go back again in two days for e results and consultation. huh how much would all that cost? Harvard told me to go get a second opinion. being the scientist me also agreed and i decided to do my blood test at polyclinic instead. although the waiting time can be dumb but it gets things done. i got my blood test results in less than 30 min, found out it is not dengue and deduced i am suffering from bacteria infection from the data. and e doctor prescribed augmentin as suggested by Harvard. all for just $3.70

now i am going to memorize all e drug names and their uses and side effects!!! e point i am trying to make is, take matters into your own hands, even when you are very sick, if not only trust friends and not money-sucking machines..

so i got wisdom after all

I went for my dental checkup with daylene today.. after so many years.. i think she has gotten more pro le. but i'm sad that she is leaving to further her studies in Michigan cos we'll have less time to hang out now that i'm out of lab but happy that she is furthering studies and doing something she likes. ok shant post pictures of daylene in her working attire. =p

my teeth is really bad.. took an x-ray and found that i got two wisdom teeth at both ends of my lower jaw. But the only one - the right molar - is protuding out and it is decaying quite badly!! gosh.. i didnt know that.. gotta have it removed.. my upper left molar was chipped off since a long time ago might need a root canal and/or crowning.. all these news come after knowing that MOE will only provide 70 bucks of dental coverage per year.. thanks ah.

so for my teeth, i am going to get softer toothbrush. daylene said i've been brushing too hard that my gums are receding.

also went back to lab to meet up with my old labbies.. it is so fun to have lunch with the bio people again. =)

It's supposed to be a happy ending

I just received my results today and it was supposedly a happy ending. I saw an A grade for my 16MC honors thesis and A+ for an advanced organic chem mod and A+ for financial accounting. i was initially happy cos theoretically it means i obtained my 1st class honors but there wasn't any statement on my graduated honors status below my updated CAP. I checked with all my friends and they all got something printed out there. Upon calling Science Dean office, i was informed i didnt graduate cos i only did 3 breadths out of the required 4.

So what really happened is this: i did a total of 5 breadths. 2 of which was taken during my SEP stint at UCLA (Geography related modules) and i have checked that they can fulfill breadth requirements but i will be given a dummy code as instructed by Science Dean Office as there is no exact mapping from our geography dept. When i returned, they were mapped successfully to SX2000 codes as planned, so everything was smooth. And when i filed for graduation (when one file for grad, the admin have the responsibility to check that you are going to fulfill what is needed to grad), alarm wasn't sounded off to me. So i thought everything is ok.

However i was informed only today that SX codes are meant to be Science modules and my Geography modules, despite their arts nature of content, could not be used as Breadth requirements because their codes are SX now and only placed under UE. There was obviously miscommunication as how would I know SX codes are science modules?

The immediate solution is to fulfill my last breadth and i can convert one of these two to a breadth. To do that,

1) i have to go thru Arts Fac's approval which should be on the way now (Science Dean Office is helping me with that).

2) take another breadth (must be level 2000 and without pre req for my case) during special sem which has started already. i cant do this due to my bond obligations.

3) internal recognition by science dean

Now i dont even have any mood to try my graduation gown cos i might be taken out of commencement ceremony or just grad under the category of no honors lor.. Why must such excitement only happen to me??

Project Super Cooking

I'm compling all my mom's recipes and storing them in soft copies so i can refer to them next time. i'm gonna go thru the entire process with her for each dish, from buying the ingredients to making the dish. gonna take pics along the way.

hope my Project Super Cooking will be a success! =)
